89. A recent national study of the public schools shows that (there are now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many than there were) four years ago.
This correct answer is " there is now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many as there were." My question is why they use "were" not " was"?
Thanks you so much. Now I understand that in this sentence it is actually saying "four times as many computers as there were...” Since "computers" are a plural form, we should use "were".
