答案是C？请问这题考点是什么？(如果是考修饰可数不可数，请再看下题)。还有就是rich and poor alike, both rich and poor, both rich and poor alike的用法是什么？

另一题是新东方补充材料语法第44题：

The commission acknowledged that no amount of money or staff memebers can ensure the safety of people who live in the vicinity of a nuclear plant, but it approved the installation because it believed that all reasonable precautions had been taken.

(B) neither vast amounts of money nor staff members

答案是D。我想请问C的错误在哪里呢？上题可以用numbers of 修饰people, 这题为何不可以用numbers of 修饰staff members? 谢谢！

除了staff是集合名词，等于staffmembers, 我觉得还有不能直接用“numbers” of staff members，查过字典只有a number of或常考的the number of, （longman)

碴猫猫，新东方老师也曾经这么说过关于“a number of或常考的the number of”的问题。但是101题答案中就是用的numbers of 来修饰people啊？郁闷。。。

A number of + plural n--> plrual verb ex. A number of boys go to..

The number of+ plural n--> Singular verb ex The number of boys is increasing~~

But I have checked in collin. Longman, there is no numbers of 来修饰!!! I think ETS make a mistake!! Forexample, dioxin is uncountable, but why use many? (one of the question in OG) And there is no such word "dioxins" though some would explain dioxins as different types of dioxin??

     一般的， amount修饰时间，金钱等，large或small修饰amount

                                                                     quantity修饰实物,large/small/vast修饰quantity

                                                                     number修饰人，great修饰number

我觉得C和D的差异在于并列结构的对称和完整，C里 vast amounts of money和 numbers of staff members是不够成对称的，因为后者缺少量的修饰语，而因为money和staff又分别是不可数和可数名词，要求不同的修饰语（就像你举的例子great numbers of people也须有great来修饰numbers的），所以D的结构就很漂漂啦。

新东方赵丽的分析是：
整体不是对个体

staff membetrs 是个体概念
a large staff是整体概念

money是不可数名词，显然不能理解成个体
所以(C) neither vast amounts of money nor numbers of staff members
(D) neither vast amounts of money nor a large staff
