为什么不能是a, just as 在gmat中不是一直都错么，而且我觉得a更简洁

简洁是ETS的其中一个原则,但不是最重要的原则,最重要的是放到原文中是最好的. 这里正确答案是E, 因为划线部分比较的对象是 taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide, 很明显是动词形式,即与之相对应的也应该是强调动词成分do, 这是just as ... do, 就要比similar to 和just like 要好的多了.

我的理解是这样：
B，D肯定错，因为原句要描述的是一种呼吸方式，而不是human beings

C也错，JUST LIKE或者LIKE比较的是名词（一般都是主语），这里的JUST LIKE理解为修饰it（fruit），就是说fruit象the breathing of human beings，肯定错

A：首先是similar to。。。修饰什么部分的问题，这个问题我也不是很明白（请教），我以前做题感觉似乎similar to。。。一般也用来修饰 it（fruit），这样就错了。
      换个角度想，it continues for some time to respire, taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide, 这里 taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide已经是一种修饰成分，后面再跟一个similar to。。。修饰，似乎从来没见过这样累赘的修饰。（但不确定）
      再换个角度想，similar to the way human beings breathe，这里似乎省略了in which，应该是similar to the way（ in which）human beings breathe。这里in which不知道能不能省略的？？？

   呵呵，我这个答题人水平真臭，回答回答自己问题一堆，万望牛人赐教！！

the way 的用法有三种the way in which+从句 , the way+从句 , the way that+从句

同意2楼哥哥的意见，这道题的考点就是比较的问题。关键就是要判断出比较的双方是谁。这里是taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide和选项中的一个冬冬比。
a肯定是错的，原因是taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide可以看作是一个具体的way，怎么能和A中的标概括性的way进行比较呢。比较对象不对等。

原句我改写一下：fruit respires in a way similar to that of human beings
此处taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide是对respire的一个补充说明，加上和去掉都应该不影响句子的完整性。
如果要用A的话：fruit respires, similar to the way ... 至少要是similarly。
E: fruit respires just as human beings do （do 和 respire并列，多好的结构阿）

参考了前面xdjm们的讨论，已经明白了这道题为什么选择E。可是有一个小问题，我语法根基不好，一向分不清楚句子成分。不知哪位高手能给我解释一下，上面highlight的部分在整个句子中是一个什么成份？我知道他是用来修饰to respire的，但不知道他具体的名称叫什么和它的使用方法。这一题我做错了就是因为我找的是和 taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide 对称的部分而不是和主动词to respire对称的选项。想了解多一点以防以后再犯相同的错误。

1. taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide的用法
同于OG#163,185 伴随壮语修饰前面一个句子的动作: continues some time to respire.

2. 前人的讨论中关于do 代替(to) respire 或是taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide我有不同的看法。
我认为是do 代替的是continue (some time) to respire
我的看法是从整个前后句子比较的角度看起，just as human beings do when they breathe中，human beings 跟it (=fruit)比，而respire呼吸和breathe呼吸的意思相同，所以如果do只代respire，就会变成 just as human beings respire when they breathe 似乎句意怪意且有重复之嫌。
如果再加上前述1. 伴随壮语修饰前一句continue to respire动作，还原整句成为 just as human beings continue to respire, taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide, when they breathe. 前后比较，动作相同用do代替，taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide 省略，成为答案(E)。

但是do 是否能代替continue to respire 这个短语动作，在OG上我没有看到。
再找找有没有类近的例子。
