so gradual that they are unable to be distinguished 不选它是不是因为有被动？还有OG不是一直都提倡用SO THAT嘛，我个人感觉SO AS TO 不规范。

同学们，我今天又遇到了SO的题目，但和上面的有冲突：

Unlike a hurricane,which can be observed from within, a tornado is so small that such a study has not been practial.

其实E： so small as to be impractical of study.答案说这个是错的，原题是对的啊。。。我没想清楚为什么SO THAT 和SO AS TO 到底怎么区别？

so as to 有一种“以至于”的意味，是比较客观的
so that 怎表示“以便于”，主观的意味
好像还有这么一道题：
1. Congress is debating a bill requiring certain employers provide workers with unpaid leave so as to care for sick or newborn children.
(A) provide workers with unpaid leave so as to
(B) to provide workers with unpaid leave so as to
(C) provide workers with unpaid leave in order that they
(D) to provide workers with unpaid leave so that they can
(E) provide workers with unpaid leave and

我自己的感觉：
1、在单一主谓结构中，例如：She is so good as to be a teacher。So... as to比So that要简洁，因此优先。但是所谓单一主谓结构，并不是说绝对的象上面这个句子这么简单，还需要看是否有复杂的修饰关系，如果连你都觉得用SO THAT痛快的时候，那就是SO THAT。这里，没有严格的标准。

2、So as to连用的方式，在GMAT中一般都认为是非选择的答案，但不要绝对化，现还未有例外。如有，请补充。

3、注意so that后的主语，尤其是代词，要看是否有歧义，通常情况下指代主句主语，但要看so that前是否有歧义名词干扰。

4、QIQI，你问的第一题are unable to be distinguished 是不好的表达方式，所以根据这个排除。

5、我不知道你说的第2题，答案到底是什么，但是so small as to be impractical of study一定是不好的方式，这似乎同so ... as to关系不大，最主要的原因是逻辑意思表达有严重缺陷，而a tornado is so small that such a study has not been practial.很好地表达了意思，因为这是一个典型的so ... as to逻辑主语合理性的问题，因为so ... as to be ....中的be的主语一定是句子主语，也就是a tornado ，代入后是不正确的，怎么能说a tornado be impractical of study呢，应该是a study be impractical of study。所以还是要从逻辑意思上判断。我们千万不能掉进了ETS的陷阱，也不能使用那些绝对化的标准，而是要sentence correction!

so as to理解到这样，ETS也会佩服的。

再看懂句子的逻辑意思之后，在区别何时使用so as to 还是so that时的一个可用的标准：当so as to前面只有一个主语时，用so as to 可以。但是当so前面有2个或者以上的主语时，不能用so as to.这时可能会造成修饰上的不准确。一个例子就是 In 1527 King Henry VIII sought to have his marriage to Queen Catherine annulled so that he could (原文so as to) marry Anne Boleyn.

结论：so as to的逻辑主语可以是主句的主语、从句的主语(1)、从句的主语(26, 2)、从句的宾语(3)。（当然，肯定还有其他的可能。）
总之，其逻辑主语并非一定为主句的主语。如果是的话，mzyzhu举的例子A就对了，为方便起见，再贴出完整的题目：
2. In 1527 King Henry VIII sought to have his marriage to Queen Catherine annulled so as to marry Anne Boleyn.
(A) so as so marry
(B) and so could be married to
(C) to be married to
(D) so that he could marry
(E) in order that he would marry
这个题目我曾经认为A是对的，因为我曾认为so as to的逻辑主语一定为主句的主语。

你说的So as to连用是指So as to... and to...吗？还是别的？

关于逻辑主语的问题，其实和代词指代是一个问题，就近指代还是语法指代还是同逻辑意思相关。
SO ... as to所强调的是单一主谓结构、简单成分的句子，In 1527 King Henry VIII sought to have his marriage to Queen Catherine annulled 已经脱离了这个前提，根本不适合用。也就是说在这种结构下，SO THAT已经优先了。
所谓的逻辑主语是否句子主语的问题，我觉得可以明确的是单一结构，必须要一致。另外，其实SC中的有些语法特点挺特殊，并不一定适合于其他内容，反之亦然，这里还是要谨慎使用，否则容易让概念混淆。例如上面的GEMJ几个例子中的SO AS TO紧跟使用，在SC的所有题目中正确选项从未遇到过。
