any good ideas about getting off from the list?
From the information in the thread, the adcom will not consider waitlised until they finish the 3rd round, then it will be in May. I don't know whether I should wait for such a long time or head for Purdue, because I need time to apply for visa. Any comments?
First hold Prdue in hand, I assume you've got some scholarship and/or fellowship. Then try to find more FA resourse.Actually, few of apps , including many of the native US apps, could afford to go for a Bschool only self-suppoted.
Never give up for such a great school as UMBS!
Keep in mind that admission and payment of bschools are seperate.
Alternative way is if you finally got admission from UMBS as late as May or June, you might try to use the visa from Purdue to go to UMBS through showing the corresponding doc of UMBS at the US entrance costum! (Just a 馊主意,you'd better check it our from some experts)
As far as I know, usually getting off waitinglist is not easy, not mention the schoolarship/fellowship.
There are three concerns here. First, those on the waiting list are generally not as strong as those early admitted, at least in the eyes' of the adcom. Second, most B-school FA committees also use rolling procesure, therefore the later you get off the waitinglist, the slimmer chance you can got scholarship/fellowship. Finally, for most international apps, late getting off from waiting list almost equal to ding, since they are not going to have enough time to app visa!
If you can get into UMBS, no need to worry the financial issue. It provides non co-signer loan to international students.

Honestly, bad idea, coz it will be too risky. My friend used a full-scholarship offer from a second-tier school to get the visa. But after she came to the U.S., she found she was unable to leave the second-tier school to go to a top20 one, which also gave her an offer but without any financial aid.
