Robert, I am not sure if you can manage your writing style a little bit for the reference letter. To tell you the simple truth, I wrote the letter myself for my boss's signature and my friend's from HBS did so too. Also, I sort of feel it's hard for the reader to detect the similarity of writing style between your essays and references. I heard from my American friends that most Chinese write quite similar English, and we've not formed any observeable style yet. But when you write the reference letter, make sure you want to re-position yourself to be the boss. I once read a recommendation flooded with strong adjectives like "definite, superior, outstanding...". I guess it's a ding. Admission committee will raise doubt on either the authenticity of this letter or your recommender's quality. |
