The reading and the lecture both discuss the ecocertification which helps to encourage ecologically sustainable forestry practices. The reading passage gives credence to the claim that American wood companies may be unlikely do the same as other companies; meanwhile, the professor provides evidences contrary to this assertion.

It is mentioned in the passage that American consumers will not pay much attention to the advertising because it is just so much. The professor, however, declares that companies in the United States do not treat all advertising the same. He points out that Americans usually have a lot of confidence in dependent agencies and so they will react favorably to wood products with the ecocertification.

The next view made by the reading is that the ecocertified wood will cost more than uncertified ones, thus making American consumers who care deeply about the price choose cheaper uncertified products. But the professor demurs about this idea. According to him, American consumers are likely to do choose on factories other than price when the difference between two products is small. Additionally, the professor also maintains that Americans care a lot about the value of preserving and protecting the environment.

Finally, to counter the assertion that pursuing certification will make almost no sense for American wood companies because their most products are just sold in the United States, the professor claims that these companies should also pay attention to the global wood business because of foreign competitors. As the professor says, foreign companies will soon start crowding into American markets if the local ones are slow capturing their consumers.

In conclusion, the reading strongly believes that there is no good for American wood companies to pursue the ecocertification; however, the professor refutes these evidences and provides his own proofs of this very fact.
