Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Compared with hiring famous teachers, school should pay more attention to improve facilities.

Have you ever remembered how important contribution a good teacher made to our progress academically? Have you ever noticed the sweat wiped off the face of your teacher while teaching? As far as I am concerned, school should hire more famous teachers instead of paying more attention to improve facilities.

To begin with, a school is renowned by the education it offers rather than the equipment it owns. Harvard medical school, which is used to be a very tiny school with the students and faculty of less than 600, has become the world leading research institution because it insists in hiring famous scholars and teachers across the world. In retrospect, not because I held nostalgia, without enough facilities in that chaotic period of warfare, the Southwest Associated
University
nurtured Yang Zhenning and Li Zhengdao who finally won the Nobel Prize. This is a strong piece of evidence to support my point of view that no matter how beautiful the campus is like or how sophisticated the facilities of the school have, without high-quality teachers, all effort and investment made on hardware will be in vain.

In addition, famous teachers can bring resources to the school. A famous teacher always publishes essays on national or even world-renowned magazines, which will definitely attract attentions of students or high ranking officials. Typically in China
, these achievements may gradually improve the reputation of a less developed school and give them an opportunity to improve its facilities. A famous teacher also establishes relationships with their counterparts in other universities. If these resources are well cultivated, it will be beneficial for the development of the school. The logical reasoning behind is that famous teachers lead to advanced facilities, not vise versa.

Admittedly, some facilities like gym and libraries are necessities to students. If they are made good use of, students will have a better environment for studying. However, without correct instructions from their teacher, these facilities will not function well.

Based on the reasoning above, we may safely draw the conclusion that schools should pay more attention to attract famous teachers instead of making more investment on facilities.
