OG 12--2
Although a surge in retail sales have raised hopes that there is a recovery finally under way, many economists say that without a large amount of spending the recovery might not last.
中的E 选项 raised hopes for a recovery finally    OG 给的解释是 For a recovery finally is awkward  是不是可以理解为 for + n 一般不太对呀@@ O(∩_∩)O谢谢
OG 12--3
Although various eighteenth-and nineteenth-century American poets had professed an interest in Native American poetry and had pretended to imitate Native American forms in their own works, until almost 1900, schoolars and critics did not begin seriously to study traditional Native American poetry in native languages.
A until almost 1900, scholars and critics did not begin seriously to study
B  until almost 1900 scholars and critics had not begun seriously studying
C  not until almost 1900 were scholars and critics to being seriously to study
D  it was not almost until 1900 when scholars and critics began to seriously study
E  it was not until almost 1900 that scholars and critics seriously began studying

A 选项OG 解释说until almost 1900 is problematic , 不明白怎么有问题了   还有 until 用法 谢谢啦

中的 until almost 1900即可以向前修饰various eighteenth-and nineteenth-century American poets had professed an interest in Native American poetry and had pretended to imitate Native American forms in their own works,又可以向后修饰 schoolars and critics did not begin seriously to study traditional Native American poetry in native languages.
所以存在歧义

1.What is awkward in sentence #1 is not the use of "for" but that of the rest part,ie. a recovery finally.More exactly,it is the modifier "finally" that makes the choice dead.If you use it to modify the noun, recovery, then remember the rule:adverb can not modify a noun, only an adjective can.

2."It is not until ...that..."is idiom that represents a strong feeling of emphasis. In chinese it can be called "Qiang Diao Ju",quite familiar right?
Keep this in mind:When encounter this kind of question,do not seperate "not" and "until" apart. There exists no why but the idiom, the tone of language.

Hope it helps!

这里的finally不是作为副词修饰under way吗?

转发一下外国GMAT老师对这个E项的解释, 希望能有帮助。
"raised hopes for X <a recovery finally underway>"

Is that what we were hoping for? A "recovery finally underway"? What does that mean? If we just want to talk about what we're hoping for, we're hoping for a recovery.

If we want to get more complicated, we could also say that we hope that something is true: that a recovery was finally underway. But we actually have to spell that out - I'm not just hoping for a noun: recovery. I'm hoping that something is true about that recovery - that it has already started.

awkward:
hope for+n.
hope that…(句子)..
要么希望要一个东西,要么希望某件事情是真的/能实现,前者用for,后者用that. (这就是规律)
但题目中hope for…being…的结构其实是企图用hope for的结构来表达hope that的意思。因为人们是希望“复苏最终到来/实现”,是希望这件事能实现,而不是recovery本身。
如非要用hope for 那后面的名词就不应该是recovery,而应是”复苏的到来”。本人能力有限,不知道表达。但你能明白就好
