选项中得后半句只有to guide 和for guiding的不同，虽然也觉得"to do""表目的更好，可不知本质区别，但认为前半句的an escaped slave herself 中herself 后置形容好一些, 就选了C，答案是A。

动词形式优于名词形式 ,choose A

我个人认为herself and escaped slave和an escaped slave herself意思是不同的。
前者指她自己是奴隶，后者的herself也可以指这个意思，还可以指后面的动词，即HT is an escaped slave and by herself returned again and again...

简单地说来，for doing是指某事物的具体用途，而to do 则有目的的意思。

例如：a knife for cutting

2.for表用途，to表目的也算是区别吧。但认为不是绝对。

如果说for doing, to do都可表目的, 但现在要选更好的,for doing没有错,它不如to do 好,就是因为动词优于名词表达
