So as to和so…that都可以表示如此…以致，不同点在于前者要求逻辑主语始终一致，而后者无此要求。因此前者的使用要特别小心，一般来说，常常用于简单系表结构。在这种结构中，前者通常要比后者好，因为它更简洁。因此，楼主认为OG提倡用后者是不准确的，要看具体的环境。此外，such…as to…和such… that…一般是错误的，因为他们一般没有So as to和so…that简洁。举例如下：

再看楼主的问题。ETS高明之处就在于它从来不把东西说死，虽然新东方讲了很多铁定的规律，但是OG上没有绝对的语句，都是经过相对的比较得出结论。

这个选项E为何不对?因为E的意思和题干不完全一样。题干说tornado如此小以致类似的研究（目前）还不实际；而E说研究就是不切实际的，这比题干程度要深。在概率论与数理统计的假设检验（这是MBA要学的课程）部分有个概念叫做“没有发现”，没有发现不等于没有吧。这里也是这样，目前还不实际和不切实际意思有差别吧。此外这里的of不好，最好换成to study。如OG

GMAT SC中忠实题干非常重要，如果题干简洁又清楚，比如OG88，大全214，so as to出现在题干里，是简单系表结构，逻辑主语又一致，你就应该保留这个选项。而大全889出现在题干里的是so that结构，逻辑意思清楚准确，你就没有理由选E。

结论是，记住我在第一段提出的规律，使用so as to要特别小心，要检查简单系表结构，要检查逻辑主语，要理解句子意思。

同意braveMBA的逻辑意思入手，因为E选项代入后，“就是tornado be impractical of study，逻辑意思不通，只能是 study be impractical of study",这样理解，可以解释为什么此处是简单的系表结构，而不用as to的原因

这个题目我曾经认为A是对的，因为我曾认为so as to的逻辑主语一定为主句的主语。

有点不同的看法：

1.关于so as to 的逻辑主语为主句的主语，指的是so as to 这个修饰成份所在的同一层次的句子称为主句（如红色部分称为主句，而so as to 只是个修饰成份，当作从属成份，类似于从句）。并非指我们常说的一个句子中有主从句，其中的从句。

2.在gemj的例子中：

Some speculate that the unusually high frequency of small goats found in island populations is a response to evolutionary pressure to increase the number of goats so as to ensure a diverse gene pool

我仍认为在该例中，so as to的逻辑主语为 high frequency of small goats found in island populations 。（翻译为：小岛上小山羊的频繁出现是为了确保不同的基因库。） 而不应该是a response 作逻辑主语。（反应是为了确保不同的基因库。）
