2003年在中国发生的sars使得科学家们开始研究冠状病毒的问题。并且对于冠状病毒对于人类的影响也开始进行了。最近发现了两起类似于sars病毒引起的，使得科学家们讨论这两个案例对于我们人类社会是否会有严重的印象，是否会通过呼吸系统传播。

第一个案例，是一个64岁的男性。入院经过治疗后，不幸逝世。经过各种诊断之后，都没有发现病源。一个驻院的的病毒科学家经过测试之后发现致病源是冠状病毒。并且科研机构稍后研究出了这个病毒的RNA序列。

之后，出现在英国的另一个案例，通过检测发现致病原的RNA与第一个案例的RNA序列完全相同。

经过一系列动物实验，科学家们发现这种病毒的特性与之前造成sars的病毒特性很相似，深藏于肺比较深的区域。这样的特性造成了一点优势，与一点劣势。但是因为位于肺深处，造成的损伤非常严重。优势是：深藏于肺中，不易上升，通过呼吸系统传播。所以我们可以在这些病毒导致过于严重疾病，以及开始传染之前，诊断并治疗。
