一整句话是这样的：Because the vertical pressure gradients within the blood vessels surrounding water, the distribution of blood throughout the body of sea snakes remains about the same regardless of their orientation in space, provided they remain in the ocean. 最后半句“provided they remain in the ocean"不能理解，那个provided 是怎么回事？什么成分？？求助啊求助

是个连词,假如的意思，理解为IF就好了。
