Q: Two or three DS problems that were really tough, and one rate problem that took me (no exaggeration) ten minutes. The rate problem gave a comparison of the two rates of two machines not in a ratio, but as a constant with another constant. I won't reproduce the problem because I don't want my score to be invalidated, but it was a bitch. No backsolving was obvious, so I pissed away a lot of time. The really hard DS problem may or may not be posted under a pseudonym in a few weeks. So pay attention! Hardly any geometry to speak of, one C/P/stats problem, nothing difficult to speak of in the more "advanced" parts of the test outside of number theory.

     回忆起小学初中时候做数学题目被老师骂，现在想来。。。还是值得的。。。呵呵

Got the surprise of my life yesterday when I saw 500 come up on the screen. 30q, 30v.

I studied my butt off for a month, and casually studied for a month before that, I am very disappointed, heartbroken if you will.

One variable is that I got laid off on thursday, and took the test saturday. I wasn't necessarily in the best frame of mind, as the layoff was completely out of the blue.

I wasn't as disappointed with the verbal as I was the quantitative. I studied Princeton book and took two Powerprep tests. First test after studying casually for a month I got a 560 but don't remember the individual scores. Took the second test a week ago and got a 570 with I think a 38q and 31v. I am not trying to get into Wharton or Harvard, just PSU's MBA or iMBA program, so a 570-600 will suffice.

So I went from a 38q to a 30q on the real test, and lost one point on verbal. I studied so hard on the math, and am completely dumbfounded as to how I did so poorly. Part of the reason was the first few math questions were a lot tougher than the first few on the PP test. For example, as the 2nd or 3rd question, I got one that I just stared at and had no idea.

(360^2)^3. So basically 360 to the 5th power. Answers were like

A.(2^5)(3^6)(5^8)
B.(2^8)(3^7)(4^5)
C.(2^7)(3^3)(5^6)

Answers like that. How do I possibly break down that question? That was nowhere to be found in my study materials.

Needless to say, I need to take the test again. 500 is unacceptable. How do I study differently?

——还是有机经的，关键是他们的数学一般比较弱，而VERBAL又非常强，对于GMAT来讲，数学的机经作用要远大于VERBAL机经。

天哪，要是让他们讨论起数学机经，那还不得个个750啊

美国也是有机经的。关键在于普及率可能没有我们高，而且形式可能不太一样。大家没看到微软认证考试一堆一堆的所谓Bible, 就是机经啊。还有一种叫法叫：Braindump。

(360^2)^3. So basically 360 to the 5th power. Answers were like

A.(2^5)(3^6)(5^8)
B.(2^8)(3^7)(4^5)
C.(2^7)(3^3)(5^6)

Is it  :   (360^2)^3 = 360^6 = (3^2 * 2^3 * 5)^6 = (3^12)(2^18)(5^6)   ?

Hi friends, I must say,I am damn impressed by the exuberance exhibited by all you active members of this group, in making the verbal section look so simple and elaborative. Your approach to solving verbal question has been a big motivator for me and has helped a lot in a big way. Apart from being thankful to you all for your kind efforts and contributions, I wanted to make a small contribution to the GMAT club verbal section. I m enclosing a word document containing around 885 SC's, which I procured from one of friends back in china. I hope it aids to everbody around in a good way. Oh,gosh!  I was trying to download some CR questions from the websiteabove, it was unbelievable that I found Chinese from there...... Theyjust copy some pages from "Xin Dong Fang Luo Ji Fen Ce".
